Xiaomi is known for its simple, inexpensive accessories, as much as its phones, and the company's latest effort is particularly impressive: Wireless AirPods for less than $ 30. These are called AirDots and feature much of the same functionality with the Apple product, including power-operated controls and a compact charging case. Unlike AirPods, however, AirDots have silicone tips that could allow for better sound insulation and safer application. They also support Bluetooth 5.0.
At 199 yuan (about $ 29) for pre-ordering in China, it's very unlikely that AirDots will match AirPods to sound quality or performance reliability. I recently tested Oppo's O-free wireless headphones, which sell for 699 yuan ($ 100) and offer the most AirPods experience from any similar product I have seen so far – and even could not come close to the original.
But it is clear that wireless headphone technology will continue to recede to the point that could be included in the box with phones soon. Xiaomi itself has this form. after announcing a wireless charger $ 15 a year earlier, it is now part of the package you get with the new Mi Mix 3 phone.
