Cavalry Leaders reflect the past year, look in the future at the FEI General Assembly – Equestrian

The Swiss headquarters, founded in 1921 and formerly led by both Prince Philip and HRH Anne, Princess Vassiliou, is now headed by Belgian chairman Ingmar De Vos, who was re-elected this week for a new four-year term in office. She is accompanied at the top of the organization by FEI Secretary-General Sabrina Ibáñez, who chairs several meetings meetings. Indeed, he noted that 116 national federations participated directly or indirectly from 16 to 20 November in Bahrain, a country whose name means "two seas".

In the acceptance speech following his re-election, De Vos highlighted some of the important issues facing the FEI today, including testing new forms of competition before the Tokyo Summer Olympics in 2020, implementing a new marketing strategy, and looking for new collaborators, adopting new technologies, graphics and applications for horse racing fans and finding a solution to the long-standing discipline of Resilience that is plagued by problems, "with a clear emphasis on n track racing Endurance not Racing ".

On this issue, the General Assembly discussed the conditions that led to the wrong start and then the cancellation of the September 2007 Tryon FEI World Equestrian Games in North Carolina, United States. According to a report by the Unit of Integrity of the Equestrian Community, "there was no reason to cause the wrong start but many issues: the most important was the lack of communication between the officials – especially the lack of radio – but also between the Organizing Committee, Athletes, delays in preparing the Vet Gate and the trail of resistance and the decision to maintain a complete program of events … which was stretched by a group that already does not have sufficient resources to deliver both the event such as the Games. "The same instrument also examines allegations of misconduct, expected to report later.

The Secretary General also discussed some of the issues that affected the overall tradition of the last Games – including construction and communication issues – but added that "to be completely honest we as a community are lucky to have Tryon been courageous and willing to get to a huge challenge to host the Games only 22 months before the event.Without them, we would not have WEG 2018. "Looking ahead, with no current host for the 2022 Games, the FEI is open the possibility of returning to individual tournament for different branches, although it is preferred that the multi-discipline offers. "This does not necessarily mean the end of the FEI's global races and offers for organizing all the experimental races will continue to be considered," Ibáñez explained.

Elsewhere on the agenda, retired chairman of the Veterinary Committee, Dr. John McEwen of Great Britain, oversaw the confirmation of changes in regulations and touched issues such as the international transport of races before being named honorary vice president of the federation. Other issues touched ranged from emotions and helmet protocol to transparency and governance within the organization.
