Santa Catarina prepares for Aedes aegypti – South Mobilization Week

Cricklewood

The year 2020 was marked by the record for the highest number of confirmed cases of dengue fever in Santa Catarina. To warn the population and encourage the eradication of Aedes aegypti breeding grounds, the state is preparing for a week of mosquito mobilization between November 30 and December 5.

According to the latest epidemiological bulletin, released by the Santa Catarina Epidemiological Surveillance Directorate (Dive), on Friday, the 13th, the state has 103 municipalities infected with the mosquito that transmits dengue fever, zika and chikungunya. “It’s the largest number ever registered in the SC. And it leaves us awake: if we have the mosquito, we may have a history of disease. That is why it is so important to eliminate areas that can accumulate water and enhance the importance of mosquito control measures to the population. “This is the best way to avoid new cases,” said João Fuck, zoo director at Dive.

In addition to the dengue epidemic situation in 11 municipalities (the World Health Organization determines the level of epidemic transmission when the incidence rate is greater than 300 cases of dengue per 100 thousand inhabitants), SC has so far confirmed more than 11 thousand cases of dengue fever. “Most cases are indigenous, that is, with transmission within the state. They are concentrated in 52 municipalities, 11 of which were transmitted at epidemic level. “This situation reflects the presence and spread of Aedes aegypti,” warns João Fuck.

Mosquito control actions

Dive advises that the actions taken by the municipalities take into account the reality of each location and follow the health recommendations to prevent the transmission of Covid-19. “The action week takes place every year in Santa Catarina, always in connection with the National Day against Dengue, on November 21. “We suggest and suggest that municipalities engage different sectors in stakeholder control activities, with virtual meetings in the in-room, which strengthen the helpline on the importance of reporting and managing clinical cases,” said João Fuck.
