PETALING JAYA: Umno will hold its 2020 annual general assembly on March 27 and 28 this year, says Datuk Seri party general secretary Ahmad Maslan (pic).
This follows a decision made by the party’s top council.
“The 2020 annual general assembly will be a combination of physical and virtual meetings,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (February 23rd).
The general meeting was originally scheduled for December 6 and 7, but was postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions.
On January 7, party intelligence chief Shahril Hamdan said the supreme council had decided to cut ties with the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and that consolidating co-operation with the PAS would be discussed at the general assembly.
Sahril said the decision was to allow the proposal to be finalized and decided at the highest level of the party, as provided for in the party constitution.
In addition to the two urgent proposals, the meeting at the level of the IAC had proposed holding the 15th general elections before the end of the first quarter of this year, in order to enable the return of a new mandate to the people.
Ahmad Maslan assured that all standard Covid-19 operating procedures including traffic control command, MCO recovery and conditional MCO will be strictly adhered to.
On the party’s 75th anniversary, various activities have lined up for the event, he said.
These include poetry composition, short videos and a logo contest.
