Rutlauka wins his first ITF career title
Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt), February 28, LETA. On Sunday, young Latvian tennis player Sabīne Rutlauka won the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Sharm el-Sheikh W-15 tournament, winning her first title of her career.
Rutlauka, who made his WTA debut in this tournament alone, defeated Switzerland’s Svenja Ohsner (WTA 736) in the final 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 7-5.
Winning the tournament will give Rutlaika ten WTA ranking points.
Next week, 18-year-old Rutlauka will make his WTA debut. Prior to this tournament, he had not advanced beyond the second round, and this week, too, Latvia had to overcome three qualifying rounds to reach the main tournament.
In the final of the M-15 tournament in Sharm el-Sheikh, the fourth racket of the competition, Mārtiņš Podžus (ATP 445.), gave up the British Paul Jab 2-6, 6-1, 2-6 531).
To reach the final, Podži has earned six ATP player ranking points.
Another Latvian tennis player, Robert Strombach (ATP 680), stopped in the semifinals and finished the tournament with four points.
In the doubles, Podžus reached the semifinals.
