"We are not yet in a state of emergency, but we want to get it in time". Thus, Marina Verardo, Head of the Department of Hygiene and Public Health of Usl VdA, today explained at the press conference the launch of the vaccination campaign against flu in the valley. Promoted by Usl, the initiative is primarily aimed at the elderly and more generally in people who are "at risk" because they suffer from certain illnesses.
The press conference was also attended by Maurizio Castelli, Director of the Prevention Department, and Roberto Rosset, Regional Director and President of the Valle d'Aosta Doctors' Series.
Vaccination is free for people aged 65 and over and for those who, from the age of 6 months to 65 years, suffer from chronic respiratory diseases such as cardiovascular, renal, congenital and chronic inflammatory systems and include planned surgical interventions .
Free movement also for children and adolescents in long-term treatment with acetylsalicylic acid, women in the second and third month of pregnancy and long-term hospitalized patients, as well as for blood donors.
For administration, which will enter into force after 15 days, it is necessary to proceed with the studies of family doctors, pediatricians of free choice and of public health physicians at the polyclinics or of the counselors of the apartments.
"The top flu will be on Christmas holidays," said Verardo, while Angelo Pescarmona, Commissioner of the Local Health Service and Campaign Coordinator, recalled that the vaccine is recommended to health professionals and doctors, doctors, nurses and OOSS performing services are essential. "The goal is twofold – Pescarmona said – on the one hand, we want to reduce the spread of the epidemic and, on the other hand, to avoid greater risks."
