Elton John, 74, is about to have hip surgery. He postpones his scheduled concerts in Paris from October 2021 to June 2023 and will continue his farewell tour in January 2022 in New Orleans, he announced on Thursday, October 16.
“At the end of my summer vacation, I had an unfortunate fall and since then I have been suffering from significant pain and discomfort in my hip, explains the big star in a press release. “Despite intensive rehabilitation and specialized treatment, the pain was getting worse and it was becoming more and more difficult for me to move around.”
“I was suggested to have the operation as soon as possible in order to regain my top form and to ensure that there will be no long-term complications”, continues the interpreter of Candle In The Wind. This surgery must allow him to do so “to continue his tours in January 2022 in New Orleans”.
However, the singer retains his participation in the Paris stage of the charity concert Global Citizen on September 25, 2021. “It’s only five songs, it’s a very different physical job than playing almost three hours every night on tour and traveling overnight.” explains Elton John.
“I know how patient my amazing fans have been since Covid stopped touring last year and it breaks my heart to keep you waiting. I promise you this: the shows will continue next year.”, ends the star.
His concerts, scheduled for 10, 12 and 13 October 2021 at the Accor Arena in Paris, are therefore postponed to 25, 27 and 28 June 2023.
The singer had embarked on his farewell tour, dubbed “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” in 2018, scheduling more than 300 dates in three years around the world, before being disrupted by the health context associated with the coronavirus pandemic.
