The administration of Addis Ababa gave land to 7500 street vendors aimed at integrating informal businessmen on the streets into the main small businesses.
According to Deputy Mayor Takele Umma of Addis Ababa, 35,000 street vendors are registered in the administration, including 7500 sellers, who are given plots. The Deputy Mayor said: "We are installing street vendors on recognized plots that are suitable for businesses and will work hard to accommodate other vendors."
Abdulfetah Yusuf, head of the Addis Ababa Trade Bureau, said that informal trade was one of the city's challenges. He said he contributed to robbery, disturbance and unfair competition with official dealers.
