Here are the 14 winners of the 2018 AppsAfrica Innovation Awards – Ventureburn

AppsAfrica.com Technical Advisory Service announced the 2018 AppsAfrica Innovation Awards prize winners after the annual award they held in Cape Town on Monday (November 12th) in the evening.

The awards – which are now in the fourth year – aim to celebrate the best mobile and technological African-American, both from companies and from newcomers in 14 categories.

In a statement yesterday (November 13th), AppsAfrica.com said this year's edition attracted more than 300 entries from more than 39 countries across the continent.

All 14 winners will be invited to participate in next year's Africa Tech summit in Kigali on 15 February next year. This year's winners come from Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda.

AppsAfrica.com founder Andrew Fassnidge pointed out that listings from smaller markets such as Malawi, São Tomé and Príncipe, Mauritania and Liberia depict the "rapid development" of African technology in addition to the usual hotspots.

The awards were supported by Uber, JET8, Syntonic, KaiOS, Africa Tech Summit Kigali and Mobile Monday South Africa. An independent group of industry experts, including media, investors and technology ecosystems, evaluated and chose the winners.

The 14 winners are:

Best solution Agritech: Farmcrowdy for Farmcrowdy application (Nigeria)

Best Blockchain Solution: Custos Media Technologies for Custos (South Africa)

Best African Apply: SafeBoda (Uganda)

Change of African Award: Vanu, Inc. (Rwanda / Zambia)

Breakthrough innovation: Nala for Nala App (Tanzania)

Better Edtech Solution: Educational Applications Xander (South Africa)

Best business solution: Kobo360 (Nigeria)

Fintech finest solution: Clickatell for WhatsApp Chat Banking (South Africa)

Best Healthtech Solution: Baobab Circle for the Afghan Pap (Kenya)

Internet of Things (IoT): HydroIQ (Kenya)

Best solution for e-commerce:Travelstart for Flapp (South Africa)

Mobility and transport: Yego Innovision (Rwanda)

Best news and entertainment solution: Qene Technologies for Kukulu Game (Ethiopia)

Social Impact Award: WeThinkCode (South Africa)
