More than 1,500 pets were vaccinated against rabies in the area

A positive assessment was carried out by the Health Authority after the end of the massive rabies vaccination carried out in 11 localities in the region.

The aim of the work was to prevent rabies, a viral disease characterized by acute encephalomyelitis, with 100% mortality, even when exceptional cases of rehabilitation are described. Transmission is from the saliva of the animal through a bite or contact with the mucous membranes or wounds as it is deposited in the nervous system. Animals that can transmit this disease may be bats, dogs, foxes, that is, warm-blooded animals.

"These rabies, carried out in conjunction with Health Seremi and the municipalities of the three provinces of the region, were able to vaccinate 1,539 pets, which meant it was a huge business that was very important for the community to prevent rabies."

The actions were carried out in 11 localities such as Canela, Coquimbo, La Serena, La Higuera, Punitaqui, Ovalle, Salamanca, Los Vilos, Paihuano, Illapel and Vicuña.
