THAT Harry and Megan Martl are preparing to become parents for the first time there is no doubt that the couple dives in the whole royal protocol they have to follow after birth.
But there is good news for the Duke and the Sussex Duchess – future parents will be much less limited about the names they can choose for their child.
Although there is a non-governmental rule that those who are aligned for the throne should call descendants after previous kings or other royal ancestors, those who are not in direct succession have much more freedom.
A perfect example is Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew, who made the royal equivalent of naming their affiliates Blanket and Apple by choosing the names Beatrice and Eugenie.
"The further the succession order, the more likely it is to have a more unique or non-traditional name," said Carolyn Harris, author Increase of rights: 1,000 years of royal parenting, he told them Vogue Australia.
"We see from the variety of names among the queen's descendants that the Queen seems willing to allow the offspring to choose their names."

However, there is still a tradition that Meghan and Harry are about to follow – waiting for several days to publicly publish their baby's name so they can tell Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the royal family first.
According to the Royal Commentator Victoria Arbiter, the reasons for this are to celebrate their new arrival in private and to check their name.
"However, the Royals have to consider the big responsibility for naming a new family member and I expect they will want to be a hundred percent of some of their choice before announcing the name and stamping the baby's position in history," said Arbiter City and country.
Despite the more relaxed rules that dictate what Meghan and Harry will do, UK bookies continue to overturn the pair will get a traditionally royal name.
Victoria, Arthur, Albert and Diana are hot favorites, like the names of the grandparents of Harry, Elizabeth and Philip.
