President Jair Bolsonaro has decided to relieve another high-ranking general from the government. The Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, General Floriano Peixoto, will resign. In return, he will be in charge of posting the post to General Juarez Aparecido de Paula Cunha, which was publicly rejected by Bolsonaro last week.
It will be the second exchange in the General Secretariat in less than six months by the government. Gustavo Bebianno, who took office early in the Bolsonaro administration, was fired in February after disagreements with the president and one of his sons, Carlos Bolsonaro.
General Peixoto, who was executive secretary of Bebianno, is near Carlos Alberto dos Santos Cruz, who was rejected last week by the government minister. Bolsonaro said he called on Santo Cruz to take over the Post Office. However, in an interview with the magazine Época, the general refused to take the offer and said he would not accept it, considering it "inappropriate" to leave the minister's condition for joining another ministry.
This is the fourth military wing accident in the Bolsonaro government in less than two weeks. In addition to Cunha, Santos Cruz and Peixoto, General Franklimberg Ribeiro de Freitas was freed from the mandate of the National Institute of India (Funai) on Tuesday of last week as the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo
The government has not yet hit the hammer on who will take over the General Secretariat of the Presidency to replace Floriano Peixoto. One of the possibilities is the Deputy Director of Legal Affairs of the Politburo, Jorge Antonio de Oliveira. He was a consultant in the room of Federal Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PSL-SP), son "03" by the president. Bolsonaro had already decided to remove the instrument ordered by Oliveira from the Political Corps and transfer it to the General Secretariat. A temporary measure published on Wednesday 19 foresees a change.
Another person named for the position is today's special secretary of social security, Rogério Marinho. The former deputy of the PSDB, Marinho is considered by his peers as a specialized political negotiator and, until the vote on pension reform, could accumulate the functions.
The choice to take Marinho in Planalto came from Economy Minister Paulo Guedes as a way of strengthening the political articulation. Bolsonaro likes the former Deputy, who has good relations with Congress and is close to Mayor Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ).
The exchange was decided after the then-President of the Post Office, General Juarez Cunha, to oppose the government's plan to privatize the state-owned company. Accused of "acting as a trade unionist" by Bolsonaro, Cunha had his resignation announced by the president during breakfast with reporters a week ago. At that time, Bolsonaro referred to a public hearing in the room where Cunha opposed the sale of the mail and put up photos with opposition MPs.
Privatization is in the government's plans to eliminate the public machine. Despite this, the Ministry of Science and Technology, headed by Marcos Pontes, has defended more of the concerns about the company strategy under its supervision, including the Post Office, which employs more than 100,000 employees.
