Sailing: Already a break in giant multihulls – Sports

The early hours of the Route du Rhum continue to damage the ranks of the giant polygons in the Ultimate class. Of the six vessels at the beginning, two have already been damaged.

After Sebastien Josse early on Monday morning, it was Thomas Coville's turn to deflect after a break on Trimaran Sodebo's ship. Late in the morning, the 50-year-old Frenchman, who was in the second temporary position behind the compatriot François Gabart (Macif), saw the relocation of the front arm of the harbor (left) that was one hundred nautical miles from Cape Finisterre.

Coville does well, but is forced to become a member of A Coruña (Spain) to find the best solution to secure the governor and his boat.

Shock with an object

The fight from Saint-Malo (Brittany) in Pointe-à-Pitre (Guadeloupe) started well for Sébastien Josse in Maxi trimaran of 32m Edmond de Rothschild. The 43-year-old captain made the race in the first place after a few hours of sailing, after starting on Sunday at 14 hours.

But on Monday morning, shortly after 5:30, Jojo warned the team director that he had suffered much damage inside Trimaran. After a collision with an unknown object, the boat stopped dead on the high seas outside of Spain. The French sailor could only note that the bow (the front section) of the float on the right (right) had been cut off.

The conditions of the race were rather tricky, with more than 4m of swelling and 30 knots (about 55km / h) of wind. Safe and healthy, Sébastien Josse was forced to retire and headed for A Coruña. A new depression is expected in the bay of Vizcaya on Monday. (NXP)
