The new Huawei Watch GT in the test

As reported, in mid-October, Huawei also introduced a new smartwatch in addition to the new smartphone Mate 20 Pro (our great test can read here). From Wednesday (November 7th) the new Watch GT is available in stores. We have tested the device for which Huawei has announced an impressive runtime over the past 10 days. It turned out that the Watch GT really is a real endurance runner. But you can not talk about a smartwatch in the classical sense.

Fitness tracker in (gentle) smartwatch look

The Watch GT, however, is more of a look at the look smartwatch. Because many of the features that this device class usually offers are not here. For newcomers score with a complete sports equipment and a huge running time. Design and work can also be convincing. Specifically, a ceramic frame, the AMOLED round panel and the stainless steel housing ensure a sophisticated look. Many camcorders (classic, sports, spacious, etc.) ensure that the Watch GT can adapt to individual needs. The 1.39-inch touchscreen offers a 454 x 454 pixel resolution. Thanks to its high brightness, it remains easy to read even in sunlight. Apart from the display, the operation is via two side control buttons. Because the range of functions is limited, the concept of operation has been reduced rapidly. The Huawei software goes with the successor of Watch 2 totally new ways. The device no longer works with Google's operating system Wear OS, but he trusts for the first time the software developed by Huawei called Lite OS, This clearly puts the gym in the spotlight.

Activities are scrutinized. There are also many useful information.

A true endurance runner

For athletes (leisure), the duration of their intelligent workout assistant certainly plays a special role. Huawei promises a 2-week battery life thanks to the first integration of the dual-chipset architecture in the world. Even with full use of GPS, the portable device must last for 22 hours. And in our test, the 420 mAh battery kept her word. We never switched off the Watch GT during the 10-day trial and we did a 2.5 hours daily sports session. Only after seven days had to recharge the device for the first time. At the end of the test there was still a residual battery of 63% available. The duration of 14 days is as realistic in about 1.5 hours of sports per day. At this point, Watch GT hits all competitors. For comparison: The new Samsung Galaxy Watch took place in our daily test very good for four days. However, this is a "real" smartwatch that can do many other things as well. Therefore, this comparison lags slightly, which does not reduce the impressive duration of the Watch GT. For charging, there is a magnetic mount that can be taken anywhere thanks to its compact design.

Thanks to the built-in magnet, the small pillow is loaded into a bomb.

characteristics

In addition to all the classic fitness features (step counting, seat positioning, high and low activity monitoring), Huawei has also incorporated multiple sporting functions for many outdoor, indoor and drills at the Watch GT. Important for athletes (water): Geärt is also waterproof up to 50 meters. The back of an oscilloscope is built-in, which worked very accurately on the test. No wonder, Huawei has the so-called TruSeen 3.0Technology developed for heart rate monitoring. This combines a self-learning algorithm and multiple sensors for individual heart rate measurement in real time. And the built-in GPS sensor never left us in the test. It supports three satellite positioning systems globally (GPS, Glonass, Galileo), allowing fast and accurate placement. Smart Watch features include notifications about messages, phone calls, alarms, or reminders. Features of Wear OS or watchOS (Apple Watch), such as voice input, instant response, navigation, phone calls etc. Not possible with Watch GT.

Huawei Watch GT Sport (back) and Classic.

conclusion

Huawei has developed the Watch GT a successful tracker fitness and put it in the case of a smartwatch. Thus, the device is particularly suited for recreational athletes who do not want to change continuously between a gym trainer and a classic clock or smartwatch. The aristocratic and well-crafted Watch GT can also be worn in the restaurant without being a sport. The biggest advantage – in addition to the fitness tracking aspects – is of course the impressive time of operation. But you should get the smartwatch has significant disadvantages. This should not disturb the target group anyway. You should be happy for the low prices. In Austria, the Watch GT is now available in the sports version (tested) for a non-binding target price of 199 euros and in the classic version for the price of 229 euros. Thus, the Huawei laptop is priced under the Galaxy Watch and Apple Watch 4.
