Today at X018, Microsoft announced its intention to acquire Obsidian Entertainment and inXile Entertainment.

Obsidian Entertainment is known as the role-playing creator such as Fallout: New Vegas, South Park: Stick of Truth, Columns of Eternity and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2.

InXile is also known for developing role-playing games such as Wasteland 2, Torment: Numenera Tide, Bard's Tale IV and upcoming Wasteland 3.

Today's announcement further strengthens the company's current stable development team at 13, following announcements made earlier this year that Microsoft will acquire Ninja Theory, Undead Labs, Complaint Games and Games for Games. In addition, Microsoft said it was interested in acquiring even more studios.

Microsoft has also opened a new studio in Santa Monica, Calif., Called The Initiative, employing top talent from across the gaming industry.
