Alcohol transportation will be allowed during the Easter weekend.
Minister for Cooperative Government and Traditional Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma caused a stir on Thursday when she told the media that roadblocks would be set up and that the transport of alcohol would not be allowed.
“During the weekend, the police will do obstacles and things. [People] “They are not allowed to carry alcohol and things from one place to another,” he said Thursday morning.
But in a turn around Thursday afternoon, Dlamini-Zuma spokesman Mlungisi Mtshali told Talk Radio 702 that people would be allowed to carry their own alcohol.
“The short answer is yes, people can transport their own alcohol, even between provinces.
“There is no risk of your alcohol being confiscated.”
Alcohol lawyer Danie Cronjé wrote on LinkedIn: “The ‘new’ regulation 81 does not contain any prohibition on the transport of alcohol by alcohol license holders or the public.”
